Running a committee online
Moving a committee online does not change the committee. It changes who can see it.
Short answer. An online committee keeps the same members, amounts and turn order, and replaces the private register with a shared record. Members see their own status and everyone else's, payments carry receipts, and the history survives a changed phone or a changed organiser.
What stays the same
- The members, the amount and the turn order.
- How money actually moves — bank transfer, wallet, or cash in hand.
- The WhatsApp group, if you have one.
What changes
- Every member can see the list. The organiser stops being the only source of truth.
- Receipts attach to the month they settle, instead of scrolling away in a chat.
- A late month is visible to the person who is late, usually before anybody mentions it.
- The record outlives the phone it was kept on.
Moving an existing committee across
- Create the community with the same amount and the same due day.
- Invite the members — one link, sent in the group you already use.
- Enter the months already collected, so the history starts where the committee started rather than where the app did.
- Post the turn order in the community description, where everyone can re-read it.
- Collect the next month normally.
If the internet is a problem
The record is read far more often than it is written, and the app keeps the last version it loaded, so a member with a poor connection can still see where things stand. Recording a payment needs a connection; reading the history does not.
Common questions
Do members need an account?
Yes, so that what they see is their own. Making one takes a name, a phone number and a password, and the invite link carries them straight into the community afterwards.
What if a member has no smartphone?
An admin can record their payments for them. The record still shows the payment as recorded by an admin, so the history is honest about how it arrived.
Can we move a committee that is already halfway through?
Yes. Enter the months already collected as recorded payments so the history is complete from the start, then carry on normally.
